ARCHITECTURE DESIGN 1
Architectural Design I is structured as an introduction to architectural design. This preliminary design module aims to present and explain design through the expression of the perception of ‘self’ and the body, construction, and materiality in terms of tectonics.
Project 1
Geometry and Form: Architectural Design Elements & Principles
This project aims to introduce basic understanding of the architectural design elements and principles, processes, and approaches in generating ideas, developing design, creating geometric 2D artworks (tattoo stamp) and transform them into 3D form (model), with the title of Expressions through Architecture Design Elements and Principles.
Project 2
Structure and Body: Materials, Anthropometric and Ergonomic Exploration - 1:1 Bamboo Installation at University Square, Taylor’s University, a collaboration with Taylor’s Me.reka Makerspace
Design a shading structure and space for university students’ activities which is to be located at University Square, Taylor’s University. Students will explore construction details, joinery, and structural quality and how the selected materials work together.
Project 3
Space and Sensory: Self - Exploration through Spaces
In project 3, look back at the shading structure in Project 2 and further develop it to a Sensory Space. The Sensory Space should ignite a sensorial experience as a first-year student in university.
Reflection
As I faced many obstacles while performing the assigned tasks, this module was the most difficult and challenging for me. I most anticipated tutorials since they provided me with the opportunity to ask questions, receive responses, and learn from my instructors and peers based on their experiences. Although the limitations and opportunities for creative freedom in this subject were challenging for me and resulted in many tense days and nights, I was nonetheless happy to have the chance to experience them. I'm appreciative of all the information, expertise, and fresh skills I gained from this module, all of which will surely be helpful to me as I continue my career in architecture.
